I found that if I do save any file to the desktop, no matter what I do I cannot get Outlook to retain a different path when I open up the Save As dialog box. I found that if I edited the file name is some way (eg retyped a few of the letters of the name) that would allow subsequent emails to default to that location. In Outlook 2007, every email starts with the default save location when I open the Save As dialog window.
